Description
PSYLLIUM HUSKS
Why feed psyllium husks? Psyllium husks may aid in the discard of sand/dirt in the digestive system. Psyllium is mucilaginous when reaching moisture and swells to many times its size. When wet, it forms into a gelatinous substance so must be fed carefully.
Disclaimer – For animal use only. It is vital that if you feed psyllium to your horse, that you have a plentiful constant supply of fresh clean water to help ensure that the psyllium passes through the gut without forming blockages. To assist with extra water intake, adding extra salt to feeds may be helpful. DO NOT FEED TO A HORSE WHOSE HAS OR IS SUSPECTED TO HAVE IMPACTION OF THE GUT. Psyllium is not to be fed constantly nor should you feed medications at the same time.
Dosage – use approx 50 grams of psyllium husk per 100kg of body weight for 5 days every month and this may aid in the removal of sand or dirt that may have accumulated in the hindgut. This may be helpful if your horse is on dry/drought conditions and/or receiving restricted amounts of pasture or hay each day.
Storage – Always store in airtight containers.
